Garden Carpet
Artist: Susan Brenner
Location: West Mezzanine Skybridge
'The beauty of Charlotte's physical environment struck me. Springtime with the dogwoods, azaleas, and camellias in bloom... it looks like a paradise.' Brenner remarked. The beauty of this region is celebrated in this terrazzo with its profusion of flowers and its culture of gardening. Design elements depict large flower and leaf forms. Their scale, placement and colors, create a sense of active but happy movement. A floral paradise.

I've always wanted to do a project based on gardens because I love gardens and I do garden. At the time this project first started, it was spring, and it was just glorious. What I love about the spring is the profusion of flowers and color. The sun comes out, and it just makes me happy. I thought having something that was bright and cheerful and full of color would be the perfect thing to do for an airport. I wasn't born here, I wasn't raised here, but I've lived here longer than I have lived any place else. I still think of the springtime, after all these years. That's what I think of when I think of Charlotte.
