Development Districts
CLT has land holdings in many areas surrounding the airfield, with 1,500 acres available for development. These areas include four primary districts. The Destination District serves as a mixed use gateway with hospitality, retail, entertainment, office space, and future transit connections. CLT South focuses on expanding logistics and industrial activity supported by strong air, road, and rail links. CLT West is planned for business parks and logistics facilities alongside future roadway and interchange improvements. The Billy Graham Corridor represents the opportunity for aviation workforce development and training, and it supports interim commercial uses.

Currently, our development focus is on the “Destination District,” which is divided into East, West and Central districts. For more information about Destination District, please refer to the drop-downs below.
Destination District Central is a planned 40-acre-mixed-use development at the entrance of Charlotte Douglas International Airport. It’s designed to create a true sense of arrival by adding hotels, restaurants, retail, and other services that currently don’t exist near the Airport. Development and selection of tenants for this project is being coordinated by Crosland Southeast.
Destination District West has been partially developed, with Amazon and Best Buy distribution facilities as well as a QuikTrip (QT) convenience store and gas station. There is currently availability for further industrial or retail development across five parcels of varying acreage.

Destination District East is a 56+ acre parcel that currently consists of undeveloped land and the city’s asset recovery and disposal building. The anticipated use of this land is TBD.
