Aviation Department Apprenticeship & Internship Programs

Aviation Apprenticeship Program

The Aviation Department provides a North Carolina registered Apprenticeship Program within the following trades;

Electrician Technician
HVAC Technician
Conveyor and Loading Bridge Technician
Heavy Diesel Mechanic

The Apprenticeship Program provides both educational as well as on-the-job experience with successful completion resulting in a North Carolina State Apprenticeship Certificate, Associate Degree or Certificate from Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) for the related instruction, job placement within the Aviation Department, and salary increase commensurate with current City guidelines.

Aviation Internship Program

Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is owned and operated by the City of Charlotte. There are more than 600 employees across multiple divisions within the City's Aviation Department. The Department offers paid summer internship opportunities at CLT. Internship responsibilities vary by division and may change periodically to provide a balanced learning environment for students.

The paid internship program includes a 20-40 hour work week for students enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program at an accredited college or university.

Students who are not local to the Charlotte, NC area are responsible for securing their own housing for the duration of the internship. Limited positions are available.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

The City of Charlotte seeks self-motivated students with strong interpersonal and organizational skills in good academic standing. Students should be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
