Runway 5K 2023 1
2024 Runway 5K

The 17th annual CLT Runway 5K comes in for a landing in fall 2024. Information and details to come.

The CLT Runway 5K is on a course entirely on the airfield with two miles of runway and taxiway and a close-up look at aircraft landing and taking off. Of course, there is an amazing view of the CLT terminal complex and the Uptown Charlotte skyline.

This certified run is in one of the nation’s most unique locations and is certainly one of the smoothest and flattest around. The course is wheelchair-accessible and baby-stroller-friendly.

Proceeds from the Runway 5K fund Airport Opportunity Scholarships at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC). The scholarships were created in 2018 to promote careers in aviation, as well as economic opportunities in Charlotte.

2023 Runway 5K Raises Nearly $50,000

The 16th annual CLT Runway 5K on Oct. 21, 2023, raised $47,361 for Airport Opportunity Scholarships. Watch highlights from this year’s race.

“Hosting the annual Runway 5K, which provides an occasion to run and walk around the airfield, is a highlight of our work,” said Stuart Hair, director of Commercial & Community Engagement. “The money raised through the event furthers our commitment to providing opportunities for the community.”

Since 2019, more than $161,000 has been raised for scholarships. So far, 15 students have received college financial assistance made possible by the Runway 5K.

Each scholarship recipient participates in CPCC’s six-week Summer Bridge program, designed to help teens transition from high school to college. Students are assigned academic advisors who help guide them throughout their classes. The scholarship covers their tuition, books and provides internship opportunities.

During the 2023 race, Carson Truesdell, 28, took first place for the men with a finishing time of 15:13. Ashley Carney, 35, was the first-place finisher among women with a time of 20:10. See complete results
