CLT Airport Prepares for Labor Day
Local Passenger Surge Expected as Summer Travel Ends
CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is prepared for increased local passenger traffic leading up to and throughout Labor Day weekend, as the holiday marks the close of summer travel season. Charlotte’s local arriving and departing passengers are forecasted to be 36% of the total volume, reflecting the region’s continued growth.
Additional travel projections include:
- CLT is prepared to welcome more than 920,000 total flyers from Wednesday, Sept. 2, to Tuesday, Sept. 8.
- Nearly 220,000 passengers are expected to pass through TSA checkpoints, about 3% fewer than the same time last year.
- The busiest travel days are expected to be Thursday, Sept. 3; Friday, Sept. 4; and Monday, Sept. 7.
- More than 4,400 departing flights are scheduled during the seven-day period.
“Labor Day weekend is typically one of the busiest of the year as customers take one final summer getaway,” said Jeff Perry, chief operating officer at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. “Airport staff, alongside our federal and airline partners are prepared to help travelers move through CLT safely and efficiently.”

- Travelers are encouraged to reserve parking in advance at ParkCLT.com or on the CLT Airport app. Through the Royalty Program, loyal Airport parking customers can enjoy Royal perks and earn reward points when booking parking online.
- Drivers should consider alternative routes and arrive at their parking location at least 30 minutes before their desired terminal arrival time.
- CLT renamed Little Rock Road between I-85 and Wilkinson Boulevard to North Josh Birmingham Parkway, creating one consistent roadway name from the interstate to the Airport campus.
