Terminal Lobby Expansion: A Transformation Fit for a Queen

The Terminal Lobby Expansion (TLE) stands as the most ambitious and transformative project in Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s history. Completed in September 2025, the expansion reshaped the heart of the Airport while enhancing capacity, modernizing infrastructure and honoring the Queen City’s regal namesake in unforgettable fashion.

Originally constructed in 1982, CLT’s terminal lobby was long overdue for a reimagining. The $608 million investment added 175,000 square feet of new space and renovated another 191,000 square feet, providing passengers with a more spacious, efficient and welcoming experience.

At the center of it all is the return of Queen Charlotte’s statue, now proudly positioned in the expanded terminal lobby. As the crown jewel of the Destination CLT capital investment program, her new home represents the Airport’s commitment to Building an Airport Fit for the Queen.
