Community Engagement & Impact

Come hungry and prepare your sweet tooth! The CLT Airport Overlook’s food truck program is serving up new flavors this summer, with two shifts available every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for your dining and plane spotting enjoyment.

In addition to a single lunch shift from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a dinner shift has been introduced from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each shift will feature two food trucks, including a sweets vendor and a savory option, offering a wider range of culinary options for visitors to this popular Airport attraction.

The CLT Food Truck Program lineup now features 26 vendors, including these three new delectable additions:

  • Peace, Love & Soul Food – Southern comfort classics served with heart
  • A Little Taste of Chicago – Authentic Chicago-style hot dogs and more
  • Fried Plantains Exotic – Flavor-packed Jamaican-Caribbean fusion

“Vendors were eager for more flexible operating times and visitors wanted more choices throughout the day,” said Marcus Choi, Business Diversity & Development Specialist Lead. “By offering both a savory and a dessert truck during each shift, we’re doubling the variety and ensuring there’s something tasty for everyone, whether they’re stopping by for a midday bite or an evening treat.”

Something for Everyone

Since the permanent Airport Overlook officially opened at its new location in June 2024, the 600,000-square-foot area, which features a playground and a display of retired military aircraft, has developed a loyal customer base for participating vendors like Ian and Ayana Bowleg.

Their company, “Smallcakes,” specializes in freshly baked goods and ice cream. It operates three local storefronts and a food truck.

“We have been one of the original vendors for the Overlook, even before the pandemic, going back to both the old location and the workers' facility (CLT Fleet Maintenance Facility), to ensure that all facility members could participate,” said Bowleg. “The CLT Overlook is very important to me because we get to serve families in our community. Our customer base is from two to 80 years old!”

Vendor Kimberly Brice, the owner of “Kimmy’s World of Ice Cream,” joined the Overlook program in November 2024. The native Charlottean recalled that watching kids celebrate birthday parties under the canopy or families enjoying picnics reminds her of her childhood.
