Name: Laurie McShea

Employer: CLT Business Diversity Programs

What is your job title? Business Diversity Programs Specialist

How long have you worked at CLT? Two years and two months

What originally attracted you to working at CLT?
The opportunity to work in an Airport environment seemed exciting and the job description was a perfect fit.

Describe your typical workday.
There really isn’t a typical work day for me. Some days are dedicated to meetings, other days can be all computer work, while even more days are event participation and concessionaire support. I enjoy the challenge each responsibility provides. I analyze E-Builder requests for small business participation with Charlotte Business Inclusion (CBI). My team works to include a diverse selection of city certified businesses to provide opportunities for small, minority and women owned businesses in Airport projects.

What do you like most about working at CLT?
I appreciate the variation of my work routine.

What daily attitude/saying/motto do you bring to your job?
Reach out to others to find the answer if you can’t find it yourself.

Do you have any fun memories or moments/stories from your time at CLT that you would like to share?
I truly enjoyed attending Crowns of Enterprise at the Gantt Building. During that event, the city honors the best small businesses in different categories with awards. Small-business owners and city employees are invited to come out and support their peers.

I like being able to work with small businesses because my husband has had a small business for many years. I have seen the struggles he has gone through. I like being able to support small businesses through troubles they may face and to help them thrive.

What keeps you at CLT?
The rewards my work provides and the support of my supervisor, Michele Torres.

What makes the City of Charlotte a special place to live/work?
My CLT position has created more opportunities for flexibility and the ability to interact with my customers to offer first hand support.

What is the best advice you’ve gotten from someone since starting work at CLT?
Network with others and don’t be afraid to introduce yourself.

If you could hop on a plane and fly anywhere, where would you fly and why?
London, England, as I’ve always been interested in its history.
