Name: Lillie Duncan

Employer: CLT

What is your job title? Shuttle Bus driver

How long have you worked at CLT? 20 years

What originally attracted you to working at CLT?
I saw a newspaper advertisement for part-time bus drivers. When I started I was part time, but since I put in so many hours I became full time.

Describe your typical workday.
I train people and drive the shuttle bus. Sometimes it is a challenge, but there is something different every day.

What do you like most about working at CLT?
When I started in 1999, the parking garage was $1.75, and everything was really small. Over the last 20 years, we have grown. The long-term lot is now $7. I enjoy my job. I really do and if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have been here for 20 years. We are a family, and if I have a problem with coworkers and supervisors, we can sit down and talk about it.

What daily attitude/saying /motto do you bring to your job?
I come in with a smile.

Do you have any fun memories/stories from your time at CLT that you would like to share? I’ve had a lot of friends who have since passed on. Priscilla Morgan and Carolyn Robinson were former co-workers that have since passed away. I remember enjoying spending time with them and talking. Today I have many others I like working with. There are great moments when we are talking and spending time together.

What keeps you at CLT?
The people and my job.

What makes the City of Charlotte a special place to live/work?
Everybody is friendly, and there’s a lot of openness.

What is the best advice you’ve gotten from someone since starting work at CLT?
Work together. If you have a problem, talk to them.

If you could hop on a plane and fly anywhere, where would you fly and why?
Puerto Rico. It’s a beautiful place I would like to go to.
