Winners: CLT Giveaways

This year’s Runway 5K may have sold out in record time (approximately 15 minutes); however, one lucky winner secured a pair of race registrations after the window closed by entering the CLT Ticket Giveaway and being randomly selected.

Winner Olivia Selner and her husband have made the CLT Runway 5K an annual tradition. This will be their third year participating in the event.

“We've been running it together since before we were married, and it's a race that means a lot to us, especially because my family has strong ties to the airline industry,” said Selner. “Last year, my brother-in-law, who is a pilot for American Airlines, joined us, making the experience even more special. Being able to run on the runway, celebrate aviation, and create memories together is what keeps us coming back every year.”

Selner added that watching planes take off during the race and getting up close to the aircraft on display along the course make it a unique experience.

“And of course, it doesn’t hurt that it’s a nice, flat course!”

This year’s 19th annual CLT Runway 5K will take place on Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 a.m.

Sweepstakes Winner Collects Runway Sign

Susan Hawes from Charlotte was the winner of the Runway ReSIGNed Sweepstakes and picked up her prize at the CLT Center earlier this month, along with her boyfriend and flight instructor David Gill.

Hawes is a student pilot and a member of the Carolinas Aviators Network.

“I want it to go in a special place, of course, so I am just trying to figure out where it is going to go,” said Hawes. “I’d love to have a hangar, but hopefully we will have a garage one day and that would be a perfect place. A little bit of Charlotte history for sure!”

The sign became available after the redesignation of the former Runway 18C-36C to Runway 1R-19L, a change made in preparation for the Airport’s future Fourth Parallel Runway.

A total of 7,186 people entered the sweepstakes for a chance to win this unique piece of CLT history.
